Body Scan Meditation
When performing a body scan, find a comfortable, quiet place away from any distractions. You may either sit or lie down. While relaxation techniques are generally done with your eyes closed, it is okay to leave them open. You may want to be in a darkened room if this is the case. While this particular technique is not designed towards sleep, you may find yourself becoming very relaxed and drifting off. If this is the case, it is alright to honor what your body is needing and take a nap. However, you will be cued at the end of the technique to become more alert and open your eyes.
